    The American Civil Liberties Union is the nation's foremost defender of the Bill ofRights -- litigating, legislating, and educating the public on a broad array of issues affecting freedom in the United States.  The national office, located in New York, contains a Legal Department, which focuses primarily on first amendment issues  and cases before the United States Supreme Court.  In addition, there are many specialized projects, including the Reproductive Freedom Project, Women's Rights Project, Gay/Lesbian Rights Project, and others.  There is also a legislative office located in Washington, D.C.

    The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) is a Quaker organization that includes people of various faiths who are committed to social justice, peace, and humanitarian service. Its work is based on the Religious Society of

    NCLR is a progressive, feminist, multicultural legal center devoted to advancing the rights and safety of lesbians and their families.     People For the American Way organizes and mobilizes Americans to fight for fairness, justice, civil rights and the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution.
Straight Spouse Network (SSN) is an international organization that provides personal, confidential support and information to heterosexual spouses/partners, current or former, of gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender mates and mixed-orientation couples for constructively resolving coming-out problems. SSN also offers research-based information about spouse, couple, and family issues and resources to other family members, professionals, community organizations, and the public. SSN is the only support network of its kind in the world.
Terminology
The defined words and phrases are some of the more common terminology that you'll hear in discussions at PFLAG support meetings . . . and on your television, in newspapers, on your radio, and just about anywhere. Often words are used incorrectly. The list also includes links to additional sources.
Transgender Michigan
