Friend of the Year Award

Ruth Bauer has been named as the recipient of PFLAG- Genesee County's first annual Friend of the Year award.  This award is presented to an individual or group who has/have helped further the efforts of the chapter, in Genesee County, in educating, supporting and advocating for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights and equality.  Ruth has been a strong and vocal supporter and ally to the lgbt community for many years.  She epitomizes the ideal ally: one who is willing to put herself on the line to call attention to inequity and injustice, to demonstrate the need for change and to call others to action.  She presents herself as a model for others to emulate, as a woman of courage, and vision, and as good friend and ally. The award was presented at a ceremony on October 12, 2003 at the PFLAG-Genesee County chapter meeting. PFLAG-Genesee County is proud and honored to have a friend like Ruth Bauer.
